Being a Light in Texas & Beyond

“I am now able to be a living, walking testimony to my family and my peers”. 

When Alexis Harper joined the Baptist Student Ministry (BSM), she had no idea how radically it would alter the trajectory of her life. Through the BSM, God surrounded the Texas Southern University student with like-minded believers and provided her with a vital church home. This deep sense of community has completely transformed her walk with Christ, shaping how she lives and honors God every day. 

Now a recent graduate and former BSM President, Alexis is turning her personal transformation into missional action. 

• She is partnering with Holman Street Baptist Church to lead a team of high school students on a mission trip to Puerto Rico, teaching them to see God’s hand at work and to learn the importance of serving others. 
• Back in Houston, as she continues her studies at the post-graduate level, Alexis remains committed to being a relentless light at TSU. She actively engages the campus community by hosting weekly Bible studies and Gospel-centered discussions with students and staff.

Lord, we thank You for students like Alexis who are actively serving as living testimonies to their peers. We pray that African American college students will receive the financial means necessary to participate in missions abroad. Please minister to the people they serve, and meet the spiritual needs of the students who serve them. AMEN.

Ser una luz en Texas y más Allá

“Ahora puedo ser un testimonio vivo para mi familia y para quienes me rodean”. 

Cuando Alexis Harper se unió al Ministerio Estudiantil Bautista (BSM), no imaginaba cuánto cambiaría el rumbo de su vida. A través de este ministerio, Dios la rodeó de otros creyentes que fortalecieron su fe y le proveyó una iglesia donde pudo crecer espiritualmente y encontrar apoyo. Este profundo sentido de comunidad transformó su caminar con Cristo y sigue moldeando la manera en que vive y honra a Dios cada día. 

Ahora, como recién graduada y expresidenta del BSM, Alexis está convirtiendo su transformación personal en acción misionera: 

• En colaboración con la Iglesia Bautista de Holman Street, lidera un equipo de estudiantes de preparatoria en un viaje misionero a Puerto Rico, ayudándolos a reconocer la obra de Dios y enseñándoles la importancia de servir a los demás. 
• Mientras continúa sus estudios de posgrado en Houston, Alexis permanece comprometida a ser una luz constante en la Universidad del Sur de Texas (TSU). Participa activamente en la vida universitaria organizando estudios bíblicos semanales y conversaciones centradas en el evangelio con estudiantes y miembros del personal.

Señor, te damos gracias por estudiantes como Alexis, que sirven fielmente como testimonios vivos de Tu gracia entre sus compañeros. Oramos para que los estudiantes universitarios afroamericanos tengan los recursos necesarios para participar en oportunidades misioneras dentro y fuera del país. Te pedimos que obres tanto en las vidas de quienes reciben el ministerio como en las de quienes sirven, y que continúes llamando a una nueva generación de jóvenes a vivir y compartir el evangelio dondequiera que estén. AMÉN.
